In one of those ‘Freddie Starr ate my hampster’ headlines, the BBC this week announced that a cat named George has registered as a hypnotherapist.
As part of a programme designed to demonstrate the lax regulation of alternative therapists in the UK, presenter Chris Jackson registered his cat with not one, but three industry bodies. Using a fake practising certificate from the non-existent Society of Certified Advanced Mind Therapists, George is a certified practitioner with the British Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming (BBNLP), the United Fellowship of Hypnotherapists (UFH) and the Professional Hypnotherapy Practitioner Association (PHPA). You couldn’t make it up!

Evidence-Based Prevention is Goal of Largest Ever Study of Suicide in the Military
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has announced that an interdisciplinary team of four research institutions will carry out the largest study of suicide and mental health among military personnel ever undertaken, with $50 million in funding from the U.S. Army. Study investigators aim to move quickly to identify risk and protective factors for suicide among soldiers and provide a science base for effective and practical interventions to reduce suicide rates and address associated mental health problems.
